Huawei Nova 8i expert review
In this specialized review, we have gone to the latest Huawei midrange for our country’s market, namely the Huawei Nova 8i.
The Nova series of Huawei handsets have always come with impressive designs and even usually have almost flagship products in addition to the mid-range handsets. Although the Huawei Nova 9 series has recently been introduced to the global market, one of the members of its previous generation, the Huawei Nova 8i, has just arrived in our country. Follow us to check out this Huawei mid-range phone.
Designing
As always, let’s start with the design of this phone. Huawei has used a 6.67-inch display in this phone, which, although it has small margins, has made the overall dimensions of this phone relatively large. The same small bezels of the screen give the phone a modern look from the front, and on the back, with a glass-like cover and the design of the cameras, which are similar to the Huawei Mate 30 series, we have an attractive appearance in this phone.
Of course, in the construction of this phone, plastic has been used in both the frame and the back part, which, of course, considering that we are dealing with an intermediate and cost-effective member of the Nova 8 family, no more was expected. But in general, the appearance of the phone is modern and the different parts of this phone have been used well.
On the right edge of the phone, the power button is integrated with the fingerprint sensor, and on top of that, a one-piece volume up and down button can be seen. At the top edge we see a 3.5 mm headphone jack and of course the output for the second speaker. The bottom edge is where the main speaker, main microphone, USB-C port and SIM card slot are located. In general, we have to say again that this phone has an acceptable design, but I wish it had a matte back cover to absorb less fat and fingerprints.
Display
On the front of the phone, there’s a 6.67-inch display that happens to have narrow bezels on the sides and top. The margins are so narrow that Huawei has not been able to fit proximity sensors and light sensors at these edges. For this reason, a notch or disc-shaped notch can be seen at the top left of this display, in which a selfie camera is placed and next to it, other common sensors can be seen.
This panel is of LCD type and unfortunately it also has a 60 Hz refresh rate. The competitors of this phone in this price range, most of the screens have 90 or even 120 Hz, and being 60 Hz is a disadvantage for this panel. The brightness of this panel could have been a little higher, but instead, the color accuracy of this display is at a high level, and the full HD resolution of this panel has made everything sharp and good.
If Huawei used the OLED panel in this phone, it could both bring the sensors located in the screen cut under the panel and improve the brightness of this panel. But given the price range, the company prefers to be a little more cautious about paying for the display, but instead spends more on the other part that we’ll cover.
Hardware and software
We had not seen the names of Huawei and Snapdragon together for a long time. Due to the sanctions that Huawei is facing, the company can no longer build chipsets, and that is why it has resorted to Qualcomm chipsets. In this phone, we also see the Snapdragon 662 processor, which has 11-nanometer lithography, and if you want the truth, it is a bit old these days. Along with this processor, there is also 8 GB of RAM so that at least there is no shortage in this regard. The internal memory of this phone is 128 GB, which of course can be expanded with the help of a micro SD memory card.
In general, the performance of this phone with this processor is at an intermediate level; This means that applications may open with slight delays, or switching between them may be slightly delayed. But in any case, you should know that this chipset may not be good for playing heavy games like Pabji or Call of Duty.
Talking about games, we must also say that this product, like the rest of Huawei’s products of the last year, does not have Google services, and with the App Gallery store, you can install applications on it. To install Persian applications, it is better to go to Bazaar Cafe. Of course, this situation is still a bit complicated, and for example, the Snap application that is in the Bazaar Cafe does not run on this phone, and you have to download Snap from the gallery app, which is a special version for Huawei phones.
There are many applications that run without the need for Google services, and for example, running Instagram and Twitter and similar applications, there is no problem. However, some applications are still dependent on Google services, and in the meantime, Google’s own software can not be fully used. For example, if you install Google Chrome separately, you will not be able to log in to your Google Account to transfer your history, passwords, or bookmarks to this phone. The YouTube app is not applicable for this phone either, or you have to use the web version or go to other YouTube apps in the gallery gallery.
Camera
On the back of the phone, there are 4 cameras, the flagship of which is the 64-megapixel main camera of this phone. It has a f / 1.9 aperture lens and captures 16-megapixel photos by default. Next to this camera, we have the 8-megapixel Ultraviolet camera, and then, there are two other two-megapixel cameras to fill the island of cameras on the back of this phone, both of which are 2-megapixel; One for macro photography and the other for measuring depth of field in portrait photography.
Battery, speaker and finger sensor
Although we started the title with a battery, let’s start with a fingerprint sensor and speaker. The fingerprint sensor in this phone, which is integrated with the power button, has fast and flawless operation. I do not know you, but sometimes I even prefer the sensors on the power button to the sensors inside the display.
Huawei Nova 8i speakers can also produce stereo sound with good volume and volume, in which the separation of audio channels can be felt. Overall, these speakers get a good score so that this phone is an attractive product for listening to music and watching movies and series. Of course, let’s not forget the headphone jack, which we see in fewer products these days, and is a positive point for the Nova 8i.
